REIKI Energy Healing
What is Reiki ?
Reiki is a gentle, holistic therapy that supports relaxation and balance on every level — physical, emotional, and energetic. Through presence, breath, touch and sound, we listen to what the body already knows — that harmony is not something to chase, but something we can return to.

A quick presentation
Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive form of energy therapy developed in Japan by Dr Mikao Usui in the early 20th century.
It is based on the understanding that everything is energy, and that this life force flows naturally through and around us when we are in balance. When that flow is disrupted — by stress, exhaustion or emotional strain — we may experience tension, discomfort, or disconnection from our natural state of wellbeing.
Reiki works by encouraging that flow to return to its natural rhythm. It doesn’t act directly on the physical body, but through the body’s energy system — restoring harmony and creating the conditions for self-healing.
It’s often described as lying somewhere between the grounding presence of osteopathy and the intuitive depth of shamanic work. It does not call upon the spirit world, but channels positive intention and energy into matter — towards the body, where healing integration happens.
Reiki has roots in ancient Eastern philosophies, such as the meridian-based Chinese healing arts (like acupuncture) and the Indian traditions of breath and chakras. A session aims to release energy blocks and restore natural flow, helping the body to return to equilibrium.
It is widely used to support relaxation, relieve stress, and foster a sense of grounding and clarity. Rather than acting as an external “energy recharge”, Reiki invites deep rest — allowing the body’s own systems to rebalance, cleanse and restore flow.
Reiki as seen in western medicine today
Reiki is now increasingly recognised and practised within hospitals and care environments across the UK and worldwide.
Institutions such as University College Hospital London and The Royal Marsden Hospital offer Reiki as a complementary therapy to help patients reduce stress, manage pain, and improve overall wellbeing.
Although more clinical studies would need to be done to bring scientific certainty, A growing body of pilot and meta-analysis research (such as those reviewed by the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health and the Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine, 2023–2024) suggest that Reiki can support relaxation, reduce anxiety, and help with the perception of pain and fatigue.
While science has yet to fully understand the mechanisms at play, evidence consistently points to Reiki’s benefits as a gentle, safe complement to medical care and psychological therapy — helping the body and mind find balance, calm and resilience and promoting healing and an overall better health.

How I approach a session — and what to expect
I believe everything is vibration, energy, and intent — and intention is at the heart of my practice.
Before we begin, we take a few moments to talk together. You may share as much or as little as you wish about how you feel, or what you would like to receive from the session. We then set an intention together — a colour, a tone to anchor to, or a more specific goal to the session.

You will then lie down and relax while I open the flow of Reiki and follow the sequence of hand positions — either with light touch or a few centimetres above the body, depending on what feels most comfortable for you.
I often work just an inch above the body, where sensitivity to energy is strongest for me, though sometimes a gentle touch on the back, shoulders, or joints (such as knees or elbows) can help you feel more supported.
A session usually lasts between 45 minutes and a little over an hour, depending on what is needed.
When it feels right, I may add gentle sound — a tone or vibration from the voice, or sometimes a soft instrument — to help the energy settle more deeply. Everything is vibration, and sound can be a subtle ally in the healing process.
If it feels helpful, I may also show you a few simple breath or voice practices that you can bring home to continue the flow.
After the session, it’s best to rest, stay hydrated, and allow your body to integrate.
If you’re new to energy work, a circle of four sessions within a month can be a deeply beneficial way to start and is generally recommended by reiki teachings. But of course, we can always find a rhythm that suits your needs and schedule.

You can receive Reiki in person at a practice space in Musselburgh (East Lothian), or at your home in Edinburgh when possible.
Musselburgh is an ideal location for those living in East Lothian or along the coast, with easy access from Portobello and the east of the city.
Online sessions are equally effective and offer the comfort of your own space — all you need is a quiet place where you can be undisturbed for the duration of the session.
Reiki does not replace professional medical care, but it works beautifully alongside it — helping to release tension, restore flow, and support both physical and emotional wellbeing in a holistic way.
If this feels like something you’d like to explore, please get in touch to book your first session.
I look forward to welcoming you !
